Our rental properties are there for you to use but not abuse. We ask that you treat our rental homes as you would your own. We have a number of simple rules that you have to follow when renting one of our properties. When you book you will be asked to accept a rental agreement that refers to these rules. The agreement is for your protection as well as ours.
General Rules and Information
The following rules and information items apply to all our properties.
- No pets. We do love animals, but some guests have allergies so we do not allow pets in our rental properties.
- No Smoking indoors. Smoking is permitted outdoors but please be courteous and dispose of your butts properly.
- No parties. Our properties are for use of our guests, and are not party houses. If you have a day visitor or two, that is not an issue. If visitors stay overnight it may require additional rental fees.
- We want your stay to be stress free. If something is broken, not working, or not up to standard, please notify us. We accept that some things require occasional maintenance, repair, or replacement and it is our responsibility to take care of those things as soon as possible so you can enjoy your stay. If something is broken or damaged due to misuse or abuse during your stay, we require you notify us as soon as possible, before your check-out.
- Leave the property in a tidy state. We ask that on departure you place your trash in the receptacles outdoor, especially if your trash includes perishable food leftovers. Please wash all dirty dishes before leaving. Beds can be left unmade, as the linens will be changed for the next visitor. Similarly, towels and facecloths will be washed for the next guest, leave used towels and facecloths in the tub. Please remove or dispose of any perishables such as fruit, vegetables, or meat before leaving. If you have packaged or non perishable items you’d like to leave behind for the next guest, please feel free to do so, eg. condiments, coffee, tea, canned goods, etc.
- Upon leaving please ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked; and all lights and appliances are turned off (stove, coffee maker, electrical fireplace, portable heater, etc.) During winter months thermostats should be returned to the temperature they were set at when you arrived. If you have used supplied onsite propane grills, please ensure that you have turned off the propane.
- We are not responsible for any loss or damage to your personal items during your stay. Similarly we are not responsible for any personal injury resulting from your activities while at our rental properties. If you are concerned about these aspects of your stay, please consider travellers insurance.
- We are concerned about guest safety. All our properties have carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. We also have external security cameras installed, and alarm systems. Entrance to the property is gained through electronic key code. The code is changed between guest stays.
- We love children, but our properties are not childproofed, therefore, we don’t rent to families travelling with children less than 12 years of age. Children 12 and up are welcome, provided they are responsible and controlled. If you are staying with older children, under no circumstance should you leave them unattended. They may be ok staying at home alone where you live and can call friends and neighbours for assistance there, but while here visiting it is a strange place for them without those safety and security nets. Our Heyden Lake property poses an additional danger for children, it is situated on a Lake with open water, very enticing for kids, but also dangerous if they are not accustomed to living on a lake. The landscaping is also rugged.
- Utilities are included in your rental charges, but excessive use of utilities may be subject to additional charges. Please be mindful and do not waste. Please note our Heyden Lake property uses a septic system and nothing should be flushed down the toilet other than normal toilet waste and toilet paper. Also, our Heyden Lake property utilizes a lake water intake which is not suitable for drinking; we suggest you bring bottled water with you for drinking. The Heyden Lake water may be slightly discoloured due to high iron content, it is safe for bathing and cleaning.
- An additional item concerning our Heyden Lake rental property. It is located in a rural neighbourhood surrounded by wilderness. This is not meant to scare, just to make you aware: The area where the rental property is located is near the home to many wild animals; everything from chipmunks and squirrels, to racoons, porcupines, rabbits, coyotes, beaver, many different birds, deer, moose, bears and more. None pose any particular danger, leave them alone and they will leave you alone – the exception to this may be a mama bear with her cubs, if you happen to see one (rare) stay away and never get between, the bears travel and are usually long gone within an hour or two. It’s not like these larger animals are in abundance, if you live in the area you might see a bear on the road, or a moose across the lake every one or two years. In addition there are insects, flies, bees, small spiders, ants, mosquitoes, blackflys, and other things you might not normally have to deal with in a city environment. Windows and doors are screened, but things like mosquitoes can still enter when you do. Mosquitoes can be especially bothersome during warm summer evenings around dusk. If you have an extreme fear of any of these, you may want to consider staying at one of our city properties. Another item that some people have problems with in the spring is tree pollen – if you have allergies ensure you have your medication. On a more positive note, during summer evenings you’ll hear the call of bullfrogs and crickets around the lake, as well as loons calling at night. Very peaceful and soothing.
Rules and information are posted near the door at all our properties.
