Location:
The property is in a rural neighbourhood surrounded by wilderness. This is not meant to scare, just to make you aware: The area where the rental property is located is near the home to many wild animals; everything from chipmunks and squirrels, to racoons, porcupines, rabbits, coyotes, beaver, many different birds, deer, moose, bears and more. None pose any particular danger, leave them alone and they will leave you alone – the exception to this may be a mama bear with her cubs, if you happen to see one (rare) stay away and never get between.  Bears travel and are usually long gone within an hour or two.

It’s not like these larger animals are in abundance, if you live in the area you might see a bear on the road, or a moose or deer across the lake every one or two years. In addition there are insects, flies, bees, small spiders, ants, mosquitoes, blackflys, and other things you might not normally have to deal with in a city environment. Windows and doors are screened, but things like mosquitoes can still enter when you do. Mosquitoes can be especially bothersome during warm summer evenings around dusk. If you have an extreme fear of any of these, you may want to consider staying at one of our city properties. Another item that some people have problems with in the spring is tree pollen – if you have allergies ensure you have your medication.

On a more positive note, during summer evenings you’ll hear the call of bullfrogs and crickets around the lake, as well as loons calling at night. Very peaceful and soothing.   Lots of ducks and geese float by with their babies every day.  Every year there are usually a few beavers on the lake, and you might catch one swimming by in the early evening or morning., occasionally coming on shore to find a tasty small tree to snack on, or bring back to it’s hut.  You’ll have a hard time getting a picture though, as soon as they see you they hit the water and dive.

Besides the ducks and geese, there are plenty of songbirds, doves, robins, and more flitting around in the trees and on the grass. You’ll see seagulls floating around on the lake.  If you look to the sky during clam days you might even catch sight of a bald eagle or two, gliding around.  Also hawks, crows, ravens, bluejays and more.

The property is accessed via a gravel road, about 300 metres from a paved secondary highway.  Snow clearing and grading is done by neighbours.  During dry summer months, the road area can be a bit dusty.  During winter months, if you love snow we usually get lots of it here – lake effect snow off Lake Superior.  When the snow flies, there may be a few inches, or up to a foot or more of snow that might fall in a day or overnight.  Great for skiers at the the Searchmont Ski Hill about 20 minutes away. The road usually gets cleared within a few hours after a good snowfall.   The driveway on the property can accommodate two or three cars easily, small to midsized vans, or truck with a large snowmobile trailer.

You’ll find that the neighbours are friendly and approachable too!  Often lending a hand should you need it, or providing suggestions about things to do while you are visiting.

Other things to note:
Water used is lake intake, we do have a filtration system in the lower level to remove particulates, but there is no filtration system to kill bacteria.  The water is suitable for washing and cooking; however, we recommend you bring some bottled water for drinking.  You may note that the water is a little discoloured when running a bath.  This is normal and is caused by a high iron content in the lake.

Pim Street Bungalow

Cozy, city bungalow with private patio off large bedroom (may not be accessible during winter months). Fenced yard, lots of parking & quick access to public transportation with a bus stop in front of the house. A short 5 minute walk to a Tim Horton’s, and a couple minutes more gets you to the Cambrian Mall, Popeyes Chicken, and more. The downtown core is approximately a 15 to 20 minute walk.  This is a two bedroom home, one with a queen bed, the other with a double bed can accommodate up to 4 guests.  Approximately 600 sq. feet.

Trunk Road Home

This home is on a main road, close to Bellevue Park, and the board walk-hub trail.  Across the road is a gas station, Harvey’s Restaurant, a Metro Grocery store and a strip mall with more.  This home has parking for two vehicles and and easy access to local city transportation .  The home is newly renovated and professionally decorated.  The home features two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with a double bed and can accommodate up to 4 guests.  Another room contains an office space with desk and chair.  Outdoors there is a small deck, with a table and a couple of chairs.

The home is located on a main artery, but there is no heavy truck traffic. Traffic dies down to nothing during the night.  There is also a railway track behind the home, with usually only one freight train a day that rumbles by at about 10km/hr.  The property is also close enough to the riverfront that you might hear the occasional horn from a Lake Freighter too.  If you like to watch lake freighters, bring a set of binoculars to the park about a 10 or 15 minute walk away and watch a few float by.  Check out https://boatnerd.com for information about the big Lakers you might see, or to see which ones are going through the St. Mary’s River between Lake Superior, and Lake Huron.
